About Us
Since 2011, Church Hill Produce has been providing quality vegetables and berries to its local community and beyond! With very few grocers in Highland County, local produce is in high demand, but little supply. After talking with mentors and renting a few acres, Kari and Michael Sponaugle crunched the numbers, ordered seeds and supplies and broke ground for Church Hill Produce (CHP).
The first plants were started in Michael and Kari's kitchen. Today, the majority of seed starting occurs in a high tech greenhouse in the valley or direct seed methods in the field when weather and varieties allow. The farm has graduated from 8 acres to a total of 30 acres for 2019. CHP is a Harmonized-GAP certified farm operation which gives the farm the opportunity to wholesale to larger markets and customers like Food Lion, Martin's and Harris Teeter.
CHP offers Pick Your Own Strawberries during the end of May and early part of June. Other season vegetables and produce include blueberries, raspberries (exclusively for a local cidery), summer and fall squash, tomatoes, eggplant, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers and Brussels Sprouts.
